These terms cover the use of Sound Atlas, a music library and recommendation app operated by Hooman Takhtechian. They are short, because the service is small and free.
Sound Atlas lets people in a few at a time. You sign in with Google or with Apple and join with an invite code, or join the waitlist and receive a code later. By joining, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, do not join; if you already have, delete your account in the app.
Sound Atlas keeps a catalogue of songs and the ratings its listeners give them, and builds ranked lists from those ratings. It runs as an app for Android and iPhone. It is offered free of charge. There is no subscription, no advertising, and nothing is sold, including data.
Saving lists to YouTube is not yet open to members; for now only the operator's own YouTube account is connected.
Connecting a YouTube account is optional. If you connect one, you are also agreeing to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's handling of your data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
Sound Atlas uses YouTube API Services for one purpose: when you press Save on a list, it creates a playlist for that list in your YouTube account and keeps it up to date. It only changes playlists it created, and it does not read your watch history, subscriptions, comments or uploads. The privacy policy lists exactly what it does with the connection and what it stores.
You can disconnect at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions, which revokes the permission immediately.
Your ratings and playlists remain yours. The service exports them on request. You can delete your whole account at any time in the app, under Account, or by email, as the privacy policy describes; it also sets out what is kept and for how long.
If you send feedback or report a problem with a song, the operator may use it to improve Sound Atlas, including to correct the catalogue, without owing you anything for it.
Sound Atlas is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. It is a personal project run by one person: it may be unavailable, it may lose data, and features may change or disappear. To the extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for any loss arising from use of the service. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
You may stop using Sound Atlas at any time and delete your account in the app. The operator may withdraw an account, with notice where practical, if these terms are broken or if the service is discontinued.
If these terms change materially, the date above changes and anyone with an account is told before the change takes effect.
These terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates, and the courts of Dubai have jurisdiction over any dispute.
